Hi everybody this is Chris, and in this video I want to show you another really great app that you can use to help you learn Chinese. It’s called Pleco, and you can download it for the iPhone or iPad or Android devices.
The basic app is completely free, however some of the more advanced features and dictionaries are paid add-ons.
Check out the video above to see a demo of all the basic features of this app, including looking up words, colour coding for the four tones, stroke order guides for how to write the Chinese characters, Chinese handwriting recognition, text to speech, Chinese character recognition using your phone’s camera or from a photo you have taken (which is really cool), a reader for texts or Chinese content on the Internet, flashcards for learning vocabulary and more…
If you’re using the app already, I’ve also demonstrated some of the more advanced add-ons in the video, so definitely check it out.
It’s such a useful app to just install on your phone, and be able to quickly look up a Chinese word or character wherever you are. You can also keep the app with you while you’re doing Chinese listening or study. I still use it a lot to double-check the tones of characters I’m less familiar with and look up English words.
